QuickStart

  1. Start Adobe After Effects
  2. Create new composition (Ctrl/Cmd-N)
  3. Create new composition sized solid (Ctrl/Cmd-Y). It is important to click the "Make Comp Size" button before OK.

General Functionality

The particles are generated in the emitter. The Emitter group contains controls for the shape of the emitter, the initial direction and velocity of the particles and controls for moving and rotating the emitter.

The particle's properties such as size, opacity and color are controlled in the Particle group. Here are also controls for how the properties vary over the particle's life.

Once emitted, the particles obey certain physical rules, defined in the Physics group. Here are properties such as gravity and turbulence and also controls for making particles bounce on other layers in the composition.

The Aux System is a particle system in the particle system. Aux particles can be emitted from the particles in the main system; either continoulsy or when the particles collide with bounce layers.

The Visibility group gives control over where particles are visible. For example, particles far away can be set to fade out, simulating fog. Here are also all obscuration settings, so that layers in the composition can be used to obscure particles.

Motion Blur is used to give particles that move really fast a smooth look, like a real camera does.
